PAs in their preceptorship will receive additional education, support, and supervision to enable them to consolidate their skills post-qualifying, whilst also developing a unique role in the practice.
The post holder will be involved in the initial assessment including taking medical histories assessing and examining patients initiating and interpreting investigative laboratory, imaging, and diagnostic tests recommending appropriate patient management and presenting patient data and plans to the supervising GP.

Further information can be found at duties of the job
The PA will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking and clinical assessment through to the diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care. They will demonstrate critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process, including assessment and diagnostic skills, leading to the delivery of safe care for all patients. They will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet the needs of the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures. The PA will provide a holistic and clinical service, with support from GPs as required, implementing agreed management plans, and following approved protocols as appropriate. The PA will be expected on a typical day to carry out some home visits and consult with patients who present on the day and via booked appointments. Consults are conducted face to face, via telephone, and via Skype. The PA will also review and act appropriately on investigative test results and referrals/correspondence regarding patients. The practice holds weekly rotating multidisciplinary meetings: mental health, safeguarding, high care needs, and end of life care and the PA would be expected to attend and partake in these.
Mentorship and supervision will be provided by designated senior GPs. The level and type of supervision will be dependent on the post holders acquisition of skills and knowledge and determined by the practice clinical governance arrangements.
About us Introduced on 1st July 2019, The Network Contract Directed Enhanced Service (DES) includes funding to PCNs through the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS). This scheme is designed to recruit up to 26,000 full time equivalent staff into Primary Care, and enables PCNs to recruit across specific roles until the end of 2023/2024.
The Cheshire & Merseyside ARRS recruitment support offer is designed to support local PCNs to grow capacity through these specified roles in General Practice, and to help resolve the workforce shortage.
The C& M General Practice Jobs platform has been developed by NHS England and Improvement North West, in partnership with MIAA Solutions, to support PCNs to recruit to ARRS roles and promote a sustainable and thriving general practice workforce across Cheshire and Merseyside.
