Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System (BSOL) brings together local NHS, councils and voluntary community and faith sectors to better serve our residents. As set out in our 10 year Strategy for Health and Care we are working together to plan how we will transform health and social care services to meet the changing needs of local people. We are focussed on how best to encourage and support better health and well-being, and provide improved and sustainable health and care services, for the population of Birmingham and Solihull. We are considered one of the fastest improving systems on a range of measures, including work to tackle lengthy waiting times.
We support 1.36 million people, with more than 1.14 million people living in Birmingham and more than 217,000 in Solihull. The ICS is privileged to serve a globally diverse population but also one which has significant health needs and inequality. The fundamental purpose of the ICS is to improve the health of the people it serves. The core challenge for Birmingham and Solihull ICS is that too many people die before they should from causes that are potentially preventable and that too many people are living for too long in poor health, including many with long-term conditions, which could be improved by better management. These gaps exist within both local authority areas.
We serve a very diverse population, with complex health and care needs, comprising both rural and urban areas, extremes of affluence and deprivation, as well as significant health inequalities. Working with our partners, we have agreed an ambitious vision. We have a strong commitment from all our partners to make our vision a reality and to make a real difference to our residents and communities, by working together.
We recognise that transformation, innovation, and digital technology are central enablers to our priorities of reducing health inequalities and improving outcomes in population health and healthcare. We are keen to strengthen our board in respect of our approach to digital, data, and transformation and are seeking a Non-executive Director with leadership expertise in this area to join our Board.
As a member of our Finance & Performance and Quality Committees you will help ensure that , that as a system we provide the best possible services bringing support and challenge to the ICB. You will have a strong background in leadership drawn from complex organisations, and experience of leading transformational change through digital innovation. You will have an understanding of the emerging digital and data landscape across the NHS and wider public sector and ideally you will bring clinical understanding derived from senior-level involvement in fields such as medicine, nursing, allied disciplines, or social care drawn from academic, research, regulatory, or clinically focused experience.
