Job Summary
AECOM is currently recruiting for an experienced transport planner (Principal Consultant) to join our Development Planning team in Northern Ireland. We are looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals with sound technical background that share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload.
Our Development Planning teamwork on projects in Northern and Republic of Ireland. These are frequently multi-disciplinary projects, undertaken in collaboration with colleagues from across AECOM.
Our Development teams work with private and public sector clients, architects, planners and other property professionals across all sectors throughout the development life cycle; providing services from site feasibility through to completion. We undertake transport assessments, travel plans, parking statements, service management plans support our environmental colleagues in preparing transport chapters of environmental statements and provide key transport inputs to the development of development masterplans.
Development Planning clients include property developers, housebuilders, retailers, Translink, universities, Hospitals/Trusts, local authorities and contractors.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a proven background in development-related transport analysis and assessment, with wider experience in project management and supervisory skills. We would expect excellent written and oral communication skills which we would continue to develop, as well as experience in client fronting and negotiation with local and transport authorities. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about working on a range of projects which support development at various stages of its life, particularly in light of the evolving transport planning, behavioural and technology landscape in which we work.
Job responsibilities:
Providing support to the directors on technical, managerial and financial matters;
Preparing fee proposals for new projects and working with the directors and Project Management Assistant to ensure projects are delivered to budget and that KPIs are met;
Providing the first point of contact for clients, architects, planners and other property professionals throughout the project;
Representing the client and AECOM at meetings, and in negotiation with, Local Authorities and other regulatory bodies;
Supervising work carried out by the other members of the Development Planning team, ensuring that it is to the appropriate technical standard and is delivered to the programme;
Delivery of transport assessments and other technical reports to support planning applications and planning appeals;
Act as a Project Manager (once accredited), as necessary, including monitoring financial performance;
Manage and mentor junior staff in terms of their professional and vocational development; and,
Contributing to technical client reports, attendance at project team meetings and presentations
Minimum Requirements- An excellent understanding, and proven experience in the field, of Development Planning;
- A proven record of dealing with clients, local authorities and other regulatory bodies;
- Experience of understanding client briefs, developing fee proposals and the effective delivery of project work;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to communicate and present confidently including in public forums and at planning hearings and appeals;
- Good presentation and technical writing skills are required, and you should be able to demonstrate a sound working competence in the use of MS Office products (including Excel and Word);
- Experience in the preparation of development-related transport assessments, travel plans and access studies, with some wider experience in policy implementation, modelling, masterplanning and/or technical design;
- Extensive experience of industry-standard junction capacity assessment applications such as Junctions 9/10 and LINSIG/TRANSYT.
- Ability to work effectively in an unsupervised environment as well as to provide the lead and direction within a project team.
- Have a sound commercial awareness and demonstrate the importance of effective financial management.
- Have experience of business development and managing client expectations; and,
- An ability to demonstrate proven management techniques including project and resource management as well as the mentoring of junior staff.
Preferred Qualifications- A degree in an analytical subject such as engineering, geography, mathematics, planning, economics or similar.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution (CIHT, CILT, IHE, TPS, IPI, ICE etc.).
- A master's degree in a relevant subject is desirable but is not essential
