St James (Daisy Hill) CE Primary School is a large, vibrant, happy and successful school providing excellence within a caring Christian community of faith, hope and love. We take pride in the high standards of educational provision and our children’s achievements. This success is due to the skills, expertise and hard work of a highly committed team of teaching and support staff.

The Governors of the school wish to appoint a part-time SENDCo to start in the Autumn term. This is a role for applicants who have completed (or are willing to undertake) a SENDCo accreditation. Our SEND provision is a current strength of our school and our new SENDCo will work alongside senior leaders and staff to continue to develop this crucial aspect of our provision moving forwards.

The SENDCo we would like to join us will be:

• A qualified teacher with expert SEN knowledge and experience.

• Able to strategically manage the SEN provisions within our school.

• Ambitious and committed to their own professional development.

• A forward-thinker, able to work independently and as part of a team

• Committed to inclusion, with high expectations for all students.

• Able to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, carers and external agencies.

Key responsibilities include:

• Shaping the school’s overarching SEND strategy working alongside other senior leaders to do so.

• Being an active member of the school’s Senior Leadership team (SL team).

• Having day-to-day responsibility for the coordination and record keeping of SEND provision to support individual pupils. This will involve supporting children in class and in small groups if necessary.

• Advising class teachers on strategies to support pupils, who may or may not have diagnosed SEND, using the graduated approach to providing SEND support.

• Delivering or arranging for external CPD to all staff relating to SEND provision / developments.

• Being involved in decisions about the effective deployment of the school’s delegated budget, support staff and other resources to meet pupils’ needs effectively.

• Liaising with the parents/carers of pupils in line with the SEND Code of Practice 2015.

• Working with the Head teacher and senior leaders to ensure that the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 with regards to reasonable adjustments and access arrangements for assessments
